St. Mark Youth Ministry strives to help the parish become a "Church for young people, which will know how to speak to their heart and enkindle, comfort, and inspire enthusiasm in it with the joy of the Gospel and the strength of the Eucharist; a Church which will know how to invite and to welcome the person who seeks a purpose for which to commit his whole existence; a Church which is not afraid to require much, after having given much; which does not fear asking from young people the effort of a noble and authentic adventure, such as that of the following of the Gospel"

Holy Father John Paul the Great

Christian charity is so much more than social work, and fulfilling service hours, important as these things can be.

First and foremost, as Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith, and the everything flows from the Mass.  We are fed, so that we can then feed others.  So we are focusing on making sure that the teens are giving an understanding of the importance of the Mass, and the opportunity and training to be involved in the various liturgical ministries (ushers, lectors, altar servers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion).  In this way, they serve each other, and the parish.

We are striving to provide the teens with opportunities to serve Christ in the poor, loving God and their neighbor.  Not because they need to fulfill a certain amount of service hours each year for their schools, or because they need community service hours, or because it will look good on a college application, but because this is what it means to be a follower of Christ, and because at Confirmation, this is what the teens agree to publicly in front of the Bishop and the parish.  Adult faith means loving God actively in the world and in the situations He has placed us in.  It means spreading the Gospel actively in our communities and wherever God takes us.

We want to give the teens various opportunities to do this, and to help them to be more and more like Christ.

With that in mind, we will be trying to offer various chances for the teens to experience different ways of serving Christ in the poor, from the liturgical ministries and ministering at the nursing home to helping out elderly parishioners, intercessory prayer, service at the local soup kitchen and more.  We also are setting up a group of teens to help spearhead looking for different service opportunities.  We are always looking for different opportunities, so please feel free to contact us.

Please stay tuned to this page and the calendar to find out what different options are available for teens to reach out as the hands and feet of Christ.
